Each of three resistors in figure has a resistance of `2.4 Omega` and can dissipate a maximum of 36 W without becoming excessively heated. What is the maximum power the circuit can dissipate?

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

`P=i^2R`
`:. i_(max)=sqrt(P_(max)/r)=sqrt(36/2.4)=sqrt(15) A`

Total maximum power `=(i_(max))^2((3R)/2)`
`=(15)(1.5)(2.4)=54W`
