Give examples where a. the velocity of a particle is zero but its acceleration is not zero. b.the velocity is opposite in direction to the acceleration, c. the velocity is perpendicular to the acceleration.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) A particle thrown upwards has its velocity in opposite direction to its acceleration (g, dowanwards).
(ii) When the particle is released from rest from a certain height, its velocity is zero, while acceleration is g acting pendulum velocity is zero, while acceleration is not zero.
(iii) In uniform circular motion velocity is perpendicular to its radial or centripetal acceleration.
