With the help of the given velocity - time graph, find the
(i) displacement in first three seconds and
(ii) acceleration for the graph.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) Displacement in first three seconds = Area of triangle OAB
`=(1)/(2)(OB)xx(OA)`
`=(1)/(2)(3)xx(30)=+45m`
(ii) Acceleration = Slope of v-t graph
As, v-t graph is a straight line. So, consider the slope of line AB.
`therefore` Slope of line AB `=(y_(2)-y_(1))/(x_(2)-x_(1))=(0-30)/(3)=-10 ms^(-2)`
So, the acceleration is negative.

The velocity-time graph of a body is shown in . The displacement of the body in 8 s is. .

Graphs are very useful to represent a physical situation. Various quantities can be easily represented on graphs and other quantites can be determined from the graph. For example the slope of velocity-time graph represents instantaneous acceleration. For a motion with constant acceleration slope of velocity-time graph is constant. If acceleration is changing with time, slope with change and thus velocity-time graph will be a non-linear curve. Further the area of velocity-time graph gives displacement. A car starts from rest with a constant acceleration a_(1) for some time and attains a velocity v_(0) . Then it immediately retards at a constant rate a_(2) to rest. The total time to journey is t_(0) Identify the correct velocity-time graph

velocity time graph of a particle is shown in figure. Find displacement of the particle.

Asserion : The acceleration of an object at a particular time is the slope of the velocity-time graph at that instant of time. Reason : For uniform motion acceleration is zero.
