A stone of mass 0.4 kg is thrown vertically up with a speed of 9.8 `ms^(-1)`. Find the potential energy after half second.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Here, mass, m = 0.4 kg, speed, u=9.8 `ms^(-1)`,
acceleration, a = -g = -9.8`m//s^(2)` and time, `t =(1)/(2)`s
From equation of motion
`s=ut+(1)/(2)at^(2)=(9.8xx(1)/(2))+(-(1)/(2)xx9.8xx(1)/(2)xx(1)/(2))=3.67 m`
`:. "Potential energy" =mgh=(0.4)(9.8)(3.67)=14.386 J`
