Consult the table of standard electrode ...

Consult the table of standard electrode potential and suggest three substances that can oxidise ferrous ions under suitable conditions.

Text Solution

Form the table it is seen that `E_(Fe(3+))^o//Fe^2=0.77V`When oxidation occurs in this couple, standard electrode potential will be -0.77V.i.e.,`E_(Fe(2+))^o//Fe^(2+)=-0.77`.Those substances which are stronger oxidising agents only can bring about this oxidation. Example of such oxidising agents are `Br_2,Cl_2,F_2`,etc.
