Why is reduction of a metal oxide easier...

Why is reduction of a metal oxide easier if the metal formed is in liquid state at the temperature adopted for reduction?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
When a emtal exists as liquid, its entropy is more than when it exists in solid state. Therefore `DeltaS` othe of reduction reaction increases which in turn makes. `TDeltaS` greater than `DeltaH`. Now, in the equation `DeltaG = DeltaH-TDeltaS`. `DeltaG` becomes more negative and hence the reaction takes place easily.
