Write the conditions to maximise the yield of `H_2SO_4` in contact process.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The important step in the manufacture of `H_2SO_4` is the oxidation of `SO_2` to `SO_(3).2SO_2+O_2iff2SO_3Deltah=-196.6kj//mol` According to Le-Chatelier’s principle, low temperaturei and high pressure favour the oxidation of `SO_2` to `SO_3`. But at low temperature reaction rate will be low. So an optimum temperature of 720K is used in contact process. Pressure used is about 2 bar and is used as. catalyst for the reaction.
