In the 3d series, the .enthalpy of atomisation of zinc is the lowest `(126kJmol^-1)`. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In the 3d series, zinc alone has no unpaired electrons arid its outer electronic configuration is `3d^(10)4s^2`. SO zinc has the least interatomic interaction and*weakest metallicbonding. Therefore, the enthalpy of atomisation is the lowest for zinc.
