The `E_((m^(2+)//m))^0` values for copper is positive (0.34 V). What is the reason for this?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Copper has high enthalpy of atomisation and low enthalpy of hydration. The high energy required to convert `Cu(s)` to `Cu^2+`(aq) is not balanced by its hydration enthalpy.
