Why are passengers thrown forward from therir seats when a speeding bus stops suddenly ?

This is due to inertia of motion. When the speeding bus stops suddenly,lower part of the body in contact with the seat stops. But the upper part of the body tends to maintain its state of uniform motion. Hence the passengers are thrown forwards.
