The following data were obtained from the analysis of five volatile phosphorous compounds. The percentages of phosphorous in these compounds having the molecular weights 222, 154, 140, 300 and 126 are respectively 27.9%, 20-2%, 22.5%, 43.7% and 24-6%. Calculate the atomic weight of phosphorous (to the nearest whole number).

The smallest weight of an element present in 1 mole of its various compounds gives either the atomic weight of the element or a simple multiple of the atomic weight.
(i) Weight of P in 1 mole (222 g) `=(27.9)/(100) xx 222 = 61.94.`
(ii) Weight of P in 1 mole (154 g) `= (20.2)/(100) xx 154 = 31.08.`
(iii) Weight of P in 1 mole (140) `=(22.5)/(100) xx140 = 31.50`
(iv) Weight of P in 1 mole (300g) = `(43.7)/(100) xx300= 131.10`
(iv) Weight of P in 1 mole (126 g) `= (24.6)/(100) xx126 = 30.99`
The smallest weight of P being 31 (to the nearest whole number) may be its atomic weight.

What is the mass of Mg_(2) P_(2) O_(7) that can be obtained from 1g of a phosphorous containing organic compound by Carius method? Percentage of phosphorous in the compound is 31

The dissociation of weak electrolyte (weak acid) is expressed in terms of Ostwald dilution law. Stronger is the acid, weaker is its conjugate base. The dissociation constants of an acid (K_(a)) and its conjugate base (K_(b)) are related by the given relation : K_(w) = K_(a) xx K_(b) At 25^(@)C, K_(w) (Ionic product of water ) = 10^(14) . Phosphoric acid is a weak acid. it is used in fertilizer, food, detergent and toothpaste. Structure of phosphoric acid is : (pK_(a1) = 2.12, pK_(2) = 7.21 , pK_(a3) = 12.32) Aqueous solution of phosphoric acid with a density of 1 g mL^(-1) containing 0.05% by weight of phosphoric acid is used to impart taste to many soft drinks. Phosphate ion is an interfering radical in qualitative analysis. It should be removed for analysis beyond third group of qualitative analysis. Which among the following relations is correct ?
