Why does benzene undergo electrophilic substitution reactions easily and nucleophilic substitution with difficulty?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Due to the presence of an electron cloud containing six pi electrons, benzene is a rich source of electrons. Hence it attracts electrophilic reagents and repels necleophiles. So benzene undergoes electrophilic substitution easily and nucleophilic substitution with difficulty
