How is galvanometer converted into an ammeter?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

A small resistance S, Called shunt resistance is connected in parallel with thr galvanometer coil , so that most of the current pass through the shunt .

Since G and S are in parallel P.d across S- p.d. across G
i.e `(I-I_(g))S= I_(g)G`
`S= (I_(g)G)/(I-I_(g))`
So , by connecting a shunt resistance .s. across the given galvanometer (or parallel to the galvanometer . Hence it is converted to an ammeter.
