Derive an integrated rate equation for t...

Derive an integrated rate equation for the rate constant of a zero order reaction.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let us consider a zero order reaction
`R rarr" products"`
`"rate, "(-d[R])/(dt)=k[R]^(@)`
`(-d[R])/(dt)=kxx1`
On rearranging
`d[R]=-k.dt`
Integration on both sides
`[R]=-kt+I" …(1)"`
I = is integration constant
if `t=0[R]=[R]_(0)`
`[R]_(0)=-kxx0+I`
`[R]_(0)=I`
Substitute the value of I in equation (1)
`[R]=-kt+[R]_(0)`
`kt=[R]_(0)-[R]`
`k=([R]_(0)-[R])/(t)`
