How can you distinguish a raw egg from a boiled egg by spinning it on a smooth table?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We spin the eggs on a table top. The egg that spins at lower rate is the raw egg. In the raw egg, the liquid matter inside it tries to get away from the axis of rotation, therby increasing its moment of inertia. As `tau = Ialpha`, `alpha` decreases, i.e.,the raw egg spins with less angular velocity. The reverse is true for the boiled egg that rotates like a rigid body.
