What are flocs? Discuss their role in sewage treatment.

Flocs are large masses of semidecayed organic waste and microbes surrounded by slime. They settle down at the bottom of sewage tanks and act as secondary or activated sludge. They are used as inoculum and also as anaerobic digesters for biogas generation.
