A vertical U-tube of uniform cross-section contains water upto a height to 0.8 m. Show. that if the water on one side is depressed and then released, its motion up and down the tube is shm. Calculate the period.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Height of water = h = 0.8 m
Period of oscillation = `T= 2pi sqrt(h/g)`
(for derivation, see oscillations of a liquid in a U-tube)
`T=2pisqrt((0.8)/(9.8))`
`= 2 xx3.14 xxsqrt((0.8)/(9.8))=0.51s`
