Bacteria with recombinant DNA, i.e., with some foreign DNA segment are called transgenic bacteria. These are developed to produce proteins, enzymes, drugs, etc. For example, bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis produces endotoxin that kills larvae of certain insects.
