ELISA technique is based on the principles of antigen-antibody interaction. Can this technique be used in the molecular diagnosis of a genetic disorder, such as phenylketonuria?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Some genetic disorders like phenylketonuria can be diagnosed by ELISA technique using antibody against the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase, responsible for the metabolism of phenylalanine. A normal person having this enzyme gives positive result and a phenylketonuric person gives negative result with ELISA due to absence of enzyme.
