The cell wall is the extraneous coat of non-living material of the plant, bacterial and fungal cells in which the plasma membrane is encased. It maintains the cell.s shape and rigidity to the cell it surrounds. Whereas, the cell membrane is the outermost living membrane surrounding the cytoplasm that consists of a phospholipid bilayer with embedded proteins. It functions to regulate the entrance and exit of molecules from the cell.
