What is the concentration of sugar `(C_(12)H_(22)O_(11)) `in mol` L^(–1)` if its 20 g are dissolved in enough water to make a final volume up to 2L?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Molar mass of sugar
`=(12 xx 12) + (1 xx 22) + (11 xx 16) = 342 g mol^(-1)`
Number of moles in 20 g of sugar `=20/342= 0.0585`
`therefore` Molar concentration of sugar solution `=("Number of moles of sugar dissolved")/("Volume of solution in litres") = 0.0585/2 = 0.02925 mol L^(-1)`
