Why heating of catalyst is discontinued the moment the oxidation of sulphur dioxide takes place ?

Catalyst is initially heated to 723 K and the heating is stopped, the moment oxidation of sulfur dioxide takes place. It is because the oxidation of `SO_2` to `SO_3` is an exothermic reaction and the heat produced during the reaction maintains the temperature at 723-773 K.
