Bond dissociation energy of fluorine molecule is less than that of `Cl_2` due to the strong repulsions between the non-bonding electrons in fluorine atoms in its molecules) due to the very small size of `F_2`. Another reason is the absence of the possibility of multiple bonding because of the non availability of d-orbitals.
