Why is the bond angle in PH(3) molecule ...

Why is the bond angle in `PH_(3)` molecule lesser than that in `NH_(3)` molecule?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`NH_3` as well as `PH_3` have a pyramidal structure with a lone pair of electrons on N and P. Bond angle in `NH_3` is `107^@` and in `PH_3,` it is `93.5^@`.
