Why is pure water regarded as a weak electrolyte ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

At rooms temperature `K_w = 1.0 xx 10 ^(-14) `, Therefore , at room temperature ` [H_3O^(+)] =[OH^(-)]= 10 ^(-7) " mol " L^(-1) ` Very low concentration of `H_3O ^(+) and OH^(-)` ions in water suggest that it is a weak electrolyte.
