What is the difference between pollination and fertilisation?

Pollination is simply the transfer of pollen from anther to the stigma of a pistil. It precedes fertilisation. Fertilisation is the fusion of a male nucleus with a female nucleus so as to form a diploid zygote nucleus. If pollination does not take place, fertilisation fails.
