Mention the reasons for difference in ploidy of zygote and primary endosperm nucleus in an angiosperm.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In angiosperms, zygote is diploid (2n) whereas endosperm nucleus is triploid (3n) because zygote is formed by the fusion of one of the male gametes (n) and egg cell (n). The endosperm nucleus is triploid (3n) due to fusion of other male gamete (n) and secondary nucleus or two polar nuclei (2n).
