How does sprinking of salt help in clearing the snow covered roads in hilly areas? Explain the phenomenon involved in the process.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When salt is sprinkled over snow covered roads, the freezing point of water gets depressed. This helps in the melting away of the snow even when the temperature is well below the normal m.p. of the snow, i.e., `0^(@)C` and it helps in clearing the roads.
