Explain the terms ideal and non-idealsol...

Explain the terms ideal and non-idealsolution in the light of forces of interactions operating between molecules in liquid solutions.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

A solution formed by mixing two liquids A and B will be an ideal solution if the attractive forces among the solute and the solvent molecules are of the same order as that of solute-solute and solvent-solvent interactions. On the other hand, a solution obtained by mixing two liquids will be non-ideal if the solute-solvent interactions are weaker or stronger than the solute-solute and solvent-solvent interactions.
