A solution of urea in water has a boiling point of `100*18^@C`. Calculate the freezing point of the solution.(K for water is `1*86 " K kg " mol^(-1) and K_b " for water is " 0*512 " K kg " mol^(-l)` ).

According to the given data :
`DeltaT_(b)=100.18-100=0.18^(@)C`
`K_(b)=0.512"K kg mol"^(-1), K_(f)=1.86"K kg mol"^(-1)`
Now, `DeltaT_(b) xx m` (molality of solution)
`:. m=(DeltaT_(b))/(K_(b))=(0.18)/(0.512)=0.35`
`DeltaT_(f)=K_(f) xx m=1.86 xx0.35=0.65^(@)C or 0.65K`
Freezing point of the solution `=T_(0)-DeltaT_(f)`
`=273-0.65=272.35K`
