Why is a nuclear fusion reaction called a thermo nuclear reaction ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Nuclear fusion reaction is called thermo-nuclear reaction because it takes place only at high temperature. To carry nuclear fusion reaction in a bulk material, the temperature of the material has to be raised to `10^6K` , so that the colliding nuclei have enough energy to overcome coulomb.s electrostatic force of repulsion. Under this high temperature fusion reaction takes place.
