Schottky defect lowers the density of io...

Schottky defect lowers the density of ionic crystals while Frenkel defect does not. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Frenkel defect arises due to dislocation of ions which does not change their number Hence, these is no change in the density. Whereas, Schottky defect arises when equal number of cations and anions are missing from the lattice resulting in the lowering of the density of ionic crystal.
