When 4.2 g NaHCO3 is added to a solution...

When 4.2 g `NaHCO_3` is added to a solution of `CH_3COOH`, weighing 10 g, it is observed that 2.2 g of `CO_2` is released to the atmosphere. The residue is found to weigh 12.0 g. Show that these observations are in agreement with the law of conservation of mass.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`NaHCO_3 + CH_3COOH rarr CH_3COON_a + H_2O+CO_2`
Weight of reactants = 10+4.2 = 14.2g
Weight of products = 12+2.2 = 14.2g
This in agreement with law of conservations of mass.
