On analyzing an impure sample of sodium ...

On analyzing an impure sample of sodium chloride, the percentage of chlorine was found to be 45.5. What is the percentage of pure sodium chloride in the sample?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Molecular mass of pure sodium chloride = 58.5u
Percentage of chlorine in pure NaCl = `(35.5/58.5) xx 100 = 60.6` if chlorine is 60.6 than NaCl is 100
If chlorine is 45.5 than Nacl is `(45.5/60.6)xx100 = 75%` of pure NaCl=75`
