The average atomic mass of copper is 63....

The average atomic mass of copper is 63.5u. It exists as two isotopes which are `"_29Cu^63` and `"_29Cu^65`. Calculate the percentage of each isotopes present in it.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let the percentage of `"_29Cu^63` be x then the `%` of `"_29Cu^65 = 100-x`
Average atomic mass of Cu then would be 63x/100 + 65 x (100 - x )/100 = 63.5
`x = 75, %` of `"_29Cu^63 = 75%` of `"_29Cu^65 = 25.`
