Explain, why lithium chloride has more covalent character than potassium chloride.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Lithium ion, due to its small size, has high polarising power. Thus, it can polarise the electron cloud of chloride ion to much greater extent as compared to potassium ion. Hence, LiCl is more covalent character.
