Tert - Butylbenzene does not give benzoic acid on treatment with acidic `KMnO_4` - Explain.

In tert - butylbenzene, the carbon atom attached to benzene is `4^@`, hence t - butylbenzene does not have any benzylic hydrogen atom, necessary for oxidation. Hence, it can't oxidised by `KMnO_4` to benzoic acid
