Boric acid is a weak acid-Why?...

Boric acid is a weak acid-Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Boric acid is a Lewis acid which accepts electron pair from `OH^-`of `H_2O`. Due to electron deficient B atom in `H_3BO_3` and releases the` H^+`.
`B(OH)_3+2HOHrarr[B(OH)_4]^-+H_3O^+`
So boric acid is a weak acid as it can not release `H^+` by its own in water.
