Why the elements of Group 14 have high m...

Why the elements of Group 14 have high melting points than the elements of group 13.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Because of smaller size of the atoms of group 14 elements the magnitude of interatomic attraction increases. Again the number of available electron for bond formation of group 14 elements are four .when there are only three available electrons for group 13 elements . Both these factors increase the interatomic attraction and so melting points are increased.
