Why is dilute `H_2SO_4` not used in the Laboratory preparation of `CO_2`?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Reaction between `H_2SO_4` and limestone i. e. `CaCO_3` leads to the formation of insoluble `CaSO_4` that forms a layer over `CaCO_3` preventing further reaction.
`CaCO_3+H_2SO_4=CaSO_4+H_2O+CO_2`
