Trisillylamine is a weaker base than trimethylamine-Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In Trisllyl amine` (SiH_3)_3overset ddot N` the lone pair of N- atom in involved in `ppi-dpi` bonding with the vacant 3d orbitals on silicon atom. So the lone pair is not available for donation to Lewis acid which usually occur for trimethylamine `(CH_3)_3overset ddot N`. sp trisllyl amine is a weaker base.
