Find out the oxidation state of sodium in

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let x be the oxidation state of Na in `Na_2O_2`. Since `Na_2O_2` contain a peroxide linkage in which O has an oxidation state of `-1`, therefore , `overset(x)Na_2overset(-1)O_2` or `2x+2(-1)=0orx=+1`. Thus, the oxidation state of sodium in `Na_2O_2` is `+1`.
