An organic compound contains 69.77% carbon, 11.63% hydrogen and the rest is oxygen. The molecular mass of the compound is 86u. The compound does not reduce Tollens reagent but reacts with Brady's reagent to give yellow precipitate. On vigorous oxidation the molecule produces ethanoic acid and propanoic acid. The compound also shows iodoform test. Identify and name the compound and write the reactions.

Two moles of organic compound 'A' on teratment with a strong base give two compounds 'B' and 'C'. Compound 'B' on dehydrogenation with Cu gives 'A' while acidification of 'C' yield carboxylic acid 'D' with molecular formula of CH_2O_2 . Identify the compounds A, B, C and D. Write all chemical reactions involved.

An optically active amide (A)C_5H_(11)NO on acid hydrolysis gives an acid and NH_3 . When (A) is treated with bromide and alkali a compound is obtained which one treatment with nitrous acid gives an optically active alcohol and nitrogen. The alcohol gives positive iodoform test. What is the structure of A and show the reactions involved.

An organic compound contains A(C_7H_5N) on hydrolysis with strong aqueous acid gives another compound B which is a monobasic aromatic carboxylic acid. The compound B on treatment with ammonia gives a salt which on heating gives C. The compound C undergoes Hofmann's bromamide reaction to yield aniline. Name A, B and C and write the chemical reactions involved.

A blackish brown coloured solid 'A' when fused with alkali metal hydroxides in presence of air, produces a dark green coloured compound 'B' which on electrolytic oxidation in alkaline medium gives a dark purple coloured compound 'C' Identify A, B and C and write the reactions involved.

A sweet smelling organic compound (A) is slowly oxidised by air in presence of light to a highly poisonous gas on warming with silver powder, it forms a gaseous substance (B), which is also produced by the action of calcium carbide on water. Identify (A) and (B) and write the chemical equations of the reactions involved.

An organic compound 'A' having molecular formula C_6H_6O gives a characteristic colour with aqeuous FeCI_3 solution. When 'A' is treated with CO_2 and NaOH at 400K under pressure 'B' is obtained. The compound B on acidification gives compound C which react with acetyl chloride to form D which is a popular pain killer. Deduce the structure of A, B, C and D.

An organic compound (A) (molecular formula, C_4H_8O_2 ) was hydrolysed with dilute H_2SO_4 to give a carboxylic acid (B) and alcohol (C ). Oxidation of (C ) with chromic acid produced (B). Write possible structures of (A), (B) and (C ) and give their IUPAC name. Write the chemical equations involved in the process.

An organic compound A (C_3H_6O) is resistant to oxidation but forms compound B (C_3H_8O) on reduction. 'B' reacts with HBr to form the compound 'C'. C with Mg forms Grignard reagent 'D' which reacts with 'A' to forms a product which on hydrolysis gives. E. Identify A to E

An organic compound X(C_2H_4O) , on oxi-dation, gives Y(C_2H_4O_2) . Compound (X) undergoes haloform reaction. On treatment with HCN, compound (X) produces Z which on hydrolysis, gives 2-Hydroxypropanoic acid. Write the equation for the reactions involved. What happens when X is treated with dilute NaOH?
