Text Solution

The symbols for many of the elements are derived from their Latin names. Same is the case for sodium, derived from Natrium thus Na.
Silicon was discovered after sulphur and when the first letter of more than one element were same, the elements were denoted by using their second letter. Thus, S for Sulphur and Si for Silicon.
