Why is nitric acid not used in the preparation of hydrogen?

Nitric acid not used in the preparation of hydrogen because nitric acid is a strong oxidising agent, and the oxygen,which is formed due to its decomposition, oxidizes hydrogen to give water overcoming the aim of the reaction.
