State the positions of neutral points wh...

State the positions of neutral points when a magnet is placed with its axis in the magnetic meridian and with its north pole pointing towards the geographic south.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The positions of neutral point are:
1. For two magnets at a separation in one lines with their like poles facing each other, the neutral point is at some point between the two magnets.
2. For a magnet standing vertical with its north pole up, the neutral point will be at same point on the vertical line away from its north pole.
3. The neutral points are situated symmetrically on either side of a magnet at equal distances from the centre.
