Give the electron dot structure of the following compounds :
` SO_2 ,H_2 SO_4 ,HNO_3 , HClO_2 and HClO_4`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The electron dot structure of the following compounds:
`H_(2)SO_(4)`: Here, sulphur is the central atom. It shares electrons with two oxygen atoms and attains octet, while these two oxygen atoms in turn share electrons with each hydrogen atom and attain octet. Currently, there are two more pairs of electrons with sulphur.
Sulphur donates each pair of electrons to two oxygen atoms, which are attached to it by coordinate bonds.
