An acidic solution contains both ` Zn^(2+) and Hg^(2+) ` ions. Which ion will get precipitated passing `H_2S ` into it ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When we have two salts, the salt which has smaller solubility value compared to another salt gets precipitated. Here, as the solubility product for HgS is much smaller than that of ZnS, `Hg^(2+)` ions will get precipitated.
