Name three assisted reproductive technologies that help infertile couples to have children

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The couples could be assisted to have children through certain special techniques commonly known as assisted reproductive technologies (ART). This technology includes IVE, IUT, ICSI, ZIFT, GIFT, AI etc.
1. IVF stands for In Vitro Fertilization. The fertilization takes place outside the body followed by embryo transfer (ET). In this method, ova from the wife/donor are collected and induced to form zygote under stimulated conditions in the laboratory.
2. GIFT stands for Gamete Intra Fallopian Transfer. In this method, the ovum collected from a donor is transferred into the fallopian tube of another female who cannot produce one, but can provide suitable environment for fertilization and for its further development.
3. ZIFT stands for Zygote Intra Fallopian Transfer. When the zygote or early embryos develop upto 8 blastomeres, it is transferred to the fallopian tube, this method is called as ZIFT.
