Why are the spores of Bacillus thuringiensis used as bioinsecticide?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is a soildwelling, gram-positive bacteria, used as a biological pesticide worldwide because of its specific toxicity against target pests in their larval stage. During sporulation, Bt strains produce crystal proteins (proteinaceous inclusions), called `delta` endotoxin, which have insecticidal action.
